As a former restorer, it is essential that I pass on the proper practices and techniques, the main one being to save as much of the original as possible, to be part of its story and not obliterate its history and value. Now, more than ever, people are becoming aware of the importance of preserving the past and looking after our future.
I am also very keen on updating furniture (when it’s not a precious antique) – unfortunately, “Brown Furniture” isn’t very popular at the moment, so rather than see something heading to landfill, I would prefer to extend its life by using paint techniques, distressing, dry brushing, gilding etc. I’m sure that, one day, the next generation will decide to rescue the painted furniture, strip all the paint off and discover its original beauty again.
Check out my gallery of before and after images below, as well as pictures from my recent workshops, to see how I put these methods into practice – and how you could too! Don’t forget to drop me an email or message if you have any queries.
