I’m Joanne, the owner of 3R’s Rescue, Restore & Reuse.

Going back to the start of my passion for furniture , I studied an HND in Antique Furniture Restoration at The Glasgow Metropolitan College and graduated with distinction in 2006. When studying furniture restoration and as a furniture restorer – I learned and put into practice the following skills:

• Cabinet making and furniture construction
• Veneer and joint repairs
• Wood turning and wood carving
• French polishing and wood finishing
• Traditional upholstery and caning
• Decorative finishes, and
• Furniture reproduction.

  Some of my work has included the Celtic and Rangers Football Clubs, renovating cruise ships and – since moving to the Highlands – a huge number of private commissions.

  After a long spell as a furniture restorer, I turned my attention to teaching and started with traditional and modern upholstery techniques, which I love doing. This then developed into “Mobile Upholstery Workshops-Scotland”, where I travelled all over the highlands but now I concentrate on the workshops in Dingwall.

  I plan to further expand my classes to include cushions, curtains, roman blinds and paint techniques.

  I have found that passing on my skills gives me great delight – I love that lightbulb moment when my students realise that they CAN do upholstery and then get inspired to go on and create their own designs.
